That's a wrap - Waste management during the holidays

There's snow on the ground. Lights are up. Candy canes are out. Gingerbread is in the oven. The tree is aglow. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Presents may be starting to appear beneath your tree. But what are those gifts wrapped up in?

In the Municipality of Dysart et al, residents and visitors can help protect the environment by properly sorting their holiday wrapping:

• Garbage: metallic or foil gift wrap, ribbons, bows, tape
• Recycling for Papers: paper gift wrap, paper gift bags (remove strings)

You can also make your own reusable gift bags:

• Make gift bags from newspaper
• Sew your own reusable gift bags

If you still want to wrap up gifts, there are many great alternatives to traditional wrapping paper:

• Wrap your gifts in newspapers that can go in your Recycling for Papers.
• Make your own wrapping paper using your home printer. Craftberry Bush has some downloadable patterns, and Mini Eco has downloadable options based on cross stitch patterns. Computer paper can go in Recycling for Papers.
• Use potato stamps to decorate brown craft paper, which can go in your Recycling for Papers.

Give a gift to the planet this year.  Use an alternative to traditional wrapping paper that can be reused or recycled!

When using a Dysart landfill, remember to show your valid landfill identification card. Garbage must be in clear bags. And recycling must be sorted into Papers and Containers.
