We've all heard of the 3Rs -- reduce, reuse, recycle. The 3Rs is not just a catchy slogan, it tells us the order we should use when managing our waste. We want to reduce first, reuse second, and recycle third, and then disposal, landfill, comes last.
Tips to reduce and reuse your waste
- Buy products with less packaging.
- Buy products in bulk.
- Buy long-lasting products.
- Avoid single-use plastics like plastic straws that go in the garbage.
- Donate items to local charities:
- Donate apples from your property to the Apple Sauce Project
- Donate firewood to Heat Bank Haliburton County
- Pack a waste-free lunch by using reusable containers, thermos, and cutlery. Download our Waste-Free Lunches poster.

- Lug a mug - bring a reusable travel mug to your coffee shop.
- Use a reusable water bottle. Dysart has a number of water bottle refill stations.
