Eagle Lake

The first settlers arrived in what is now the hamlet of Eagle Lake in 1869. The hamlet is nestled on the shores of the Gull River which flows from Eagle Lake to Cranberry Lake, close to the headwaters of the Gull River system.  Eagle Lake, located in Guilford Township, is one of a number of hamlets located in the Municipality of Dysart et al which is composed of nine townships which were incorporated as the United Townships of Dysart, Dudley, Harcourt, Guilford, Harburn, Bruton, Havelock, Eyre and Clyde, in 1867. Eagle Lake is situated at the intersection of County Rd 6 (Eagle Lake Rd) and County Rd 14 (Haliburton Lake Road) is located within the traditional territories of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa First nations.

The hamlet has an expansive general store (the Eagle Lake Country Market) that also houses the community post office and an LCBO outlet. Across the road from the store is the Eagle Lake Community Church and Community Hall (built in 1938), and the Eagle Lake public beach (with playground and picnic shelter) and boat launch. Nearby is Sir Sam’s Ski and Ride, a popular place for downhill skiing and mountain biking.

In the summer of 2024, the Eagle Lake Women’s Society (founded in 1937 to serve the community) created a number of historical panels in a kiosk at the Eagle Lake public beach which describe the history of Eagle Lake.
