The A.J. LaRue Arena is home to a single ice pad. The ice is usually put in mid-June to be ready for the summer season and remains in place for the fall/winter season. The ice is taken out following Easter weekend.
In May and June the ice surface is available to rent for ball hockey or other functions.
Arena Location
The A.J. LaRue Arena is located at 728 Mountain Street in the the Village of Haliburton.
Ice rates
The ice rates for the 2024/2025 ice season remain the same as the previous year.
Rentals
You can view ice availability online. Please contact staff by phone 705-457-1740 x.635 or email recreation@dysartetal.ca to book the ice.
Summer ice times and the summer ice calendar will become available to the public at the end of February 2025.
Please note that the arena is closed for the following statutory holidays: New Years Day, Victoria Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The arena will also close at 12:30pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
If you are looking to rent the ice during the day on a weekday and do not see the availability you are looking for, contact recreation staff using the contact information listed above. If there is an open skate (public skate, adult only, parent & tot, etc.) scheduled, staff may have the ability to move the skates around to accommodate the rental.
Public Skating
The Municipality of Dysart et al offers a variety of public skating and shinny options for the public to enjoy.
CSA approved hockey helmets are strongly recommended for all skaters regardless of age or ability.
- No person shall be permitted on the ice surface without skates
- Youth 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult
- Parents are not allowed to carry youth while on the ice surface
- Tag, chase or reckless behaviours are not permitted
- No food or drinks allowed on the ice surface, players benches or penalty boxes
- Hockey sticks and pucks are not permitted during public skating
- Wheelchairs are welcome on the ice at public skates permitted they have clean wheels and the patron is wearing a helmet. Wheelchair attendants must be wearing skates.

Parent and Tot Skate Sensory Skate |
An opportunity for parents/guardians to help young children develop their skating skills. During the sensory skate we will reduce noise in the facility, turn off the music and dim the lighting to create a calmer atmosphere on the ice.

Sponsoring a public skate
If you are interested in sponsoring an existing public skating program or providing additional public skating opportunities please call 705-457-1740 x.635.
Public skating sponsors will have their name/business name displayed in the lobby and on our outdoor electronic sign.
Skating Parties
Skating parties consist of 50 minutes of ice time and a one hour auditorium rental.
Fall/Winter skating parties cost $116.40 + insurance + HST.
Summer skating parties (from start of ice season up to and including Labour Day) $220 + insurance + HST.
