Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd. (E360S) is excited to unveil its smart outdoor battery recycling container in Dysart et al on August 8th at 11:00 a.m., marking a significant milestone for the company and the province.
This innovative battery recycling container was meticulously designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and mitigate risk, featuring advanced sensors to monitor temperature and material volumes. The first recycling bin will be located outside Rails End Gallery & Art Centre at 23 York St in Haliburton.
"The Municipality of Dysart et al is so excited to launch E360S’ Outdoor Battery Recycling Collection Container," said John Watson, Dysart’s Environmental Manager. "Through this innovative industry partnership, Dysart ratepayers will have another convenient opportunity to recycle their household batteries."
The inception of this innovative solution was inspired by the reduced access for consumers to properly recycle their batteries during the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past two years, the company has worked diligently to create a container that not only minimizes risks for collection sites but also offers unparalleled accessibility for consumers. Now, people living in Dysart et al can recycle their batteries whenever they choose, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"The launch of these new outdoor battery collection bins will provide Ontarians with expanded access to a best-in-class solution for used battery recycling," explained Andrew Horsman, VP of Sustainability at Environmental 360 Solutions. "These bins are the product of two years of development and innovation, and they incorporate all the combined knowledge of E360S’ 20-plus years of experience in collecting used batteries safely, and in a way that allows the valuable materials in them to be recovered. The sensors allow real-time monitoring of the fill level of the container and internal temperature by E360S’ battery recycling team, and it will promptly alert us if the temperature inside the container rises. In the event of thermal activity, the containers are equipped with a quick deployment suppression system providing optimum safety and reliability for outdoor collection placements."
"Dysart is honoured to be one of only a handful of municipalities across the province to implement this new smart-container!” added Watson. “E360S has been on the forefront of battery recycling for many years, effectively recycling household batteries into fertilizers and scrap metal. Their new Outdoor Battery Recycling Collection Container is a game-changer for the collection of household batteries!"
The development and testing of the recycling container was made possible through a collaboration between Environmental 360 Solutions Ltd. and Sam Santucci, an engineering graduate from Niagara College.
To assess consumer response, outdoor battery recycling containers will be placed strategically throughout Ontario over the summer.
"Our newly acquired team has more than 40 years of experience and helped facilitate the first curbside battery collection in North America, as well as other innovative programs that once helped Ontario achieve the highest capture rate in North America," said Donato Ardellini, E360S Founder and CEO. "These cutting-edge collection containers signify a new era of accessibility and will fundamentally reshape the battery recycling landscape here in Ontario and across North America."
